We are excited to announce the first Force Platform Experiment and Contest for National Biomechanics Day (NBD) in 2019! NBD is a world-wide celebration of all things biomechanics for high school students and teachers. Biomechanics is the fundamental example of STEM and STEAM educational initiatives. It combines Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics into one awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, human-enhancing, creative endeavor.

The goal of the contest is to promote learning about Biomechanics through a unique and exciting experiment utilizing a force platform. The contest-winner group will receive up to ten NBD 2019 t-shirts! This year, the theme of the contest will be:

Jump High For National Biomechanics Day

Each entry will include a Biomechanics experiment describing or comparing force data from a force platform-based experiment on jumping. Entrants can select their own experiment’s purpose. Some examples are:

  1. Compare maximum jumping forces between boys and girls, or

  2. Compare jumping impulses between low and high jumps, or

  3. Compare vertical & horizontal forces between maximum vertical jumping and maximum horizontal jumping.

These are just a few suggestions, of course, you can create your own jumping activity. All entries are due by April 30, 2019 and contest winners will be announced in Mid-May. Please submit your entries to: [email protected]. Click here for more contest details.
